A Twist on Spice Cake

Crystallized Ginger. Grated Carrots. Fresh Parsley.
This isn’t your average box cake remix.
At Bon Society, we believe convenience can still be creative. Inspired by nostalgic flavors and fueled by bold experimentation, we took the humble Duncan Hines Perfectly Moist Spice Cake Mix (you can use any mix you want) and transformed it into something vibrant, earthy, and beautifully unexpected.
The Add-Ins
1/2 cup crystallized ginger (3–4 oz), finely chopped
1 cup fresh parsley leaves, minced
2 cups grated carrots (about 3–4 medium carrots)
These ingredients don’t just add flavor — they add soul. The ginger brings chewy heat. The parsley adds a grassy balance. The carrots create moisture and color that make every slice glow from the inside out.
How to Make It
Preheat your oven to 350°F.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix with 1 cup water, 3 large eggs, and 1/2 cup vegetable oil.
Add in your ginger, parsley, and grated carrots. Blend for 30 seconds on low, then beat for 2 minutes on medium.
Pour into a greased 13 x 9-inch pan or cupcake tins.
Bake for 23–28 minutes (or 16–19 for cupcakes), until a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool completely before frosting — if you even want to. This cake is incredible on its own.
Why It Works
The mix’s base has warm cinnamon and nutmeg notes, which play beautifully with ginger’s spice and carrot’s sweetness. Parsley may sound unusual, but it delivers a subtle aromatic freshness that grounds the richness and keeps the cake light on the palate.
Optional Finish
Top it with our Probiotic Cream Cheese frosting.
